Who's Out There?
Hello Vancouver Unity Users,
I am Richard Hart from Ethical Entertainment. We are a local Unity and iPhone game studio that specializes in kids games and content. We've been using Unity for over 2 years now and think it represents the future of indie game dev. For the longest time, we though we were the only ones out there in Vancouver and we'd really be happy to hear who else is out there too. We'll be helping J Joly get things rocking locally over the coming month so I invite you to drop in a post and let us know who you are, what your up do and what your experience has been like with Unity 3D so far.
Also, please feel free to put your 2 cents in on what you'd like to see and get out of a local Unity user group which could include things like:
-Monthly meetups
-Guest speakers from the local dev community
-Tutorials/Training on the Art and Science of Unity game dev
-Networking ops
...
Cheers,
Rich
We should definitely meet on a regular basis. It would not only help the Vancouver UUG get to know each other better, but I'm sure it would help us grow too.
If we don't meet up, then this forum seems like an extension of the Unity forums where topics are reiterated. It could be so much more if the developers are actually acquainted.
There was a lot of interest at the event earlier this summer, I'm sure if it was advertised well enough you'd see some decent numbers coming out again.
Hi folks,
I am a hobbyist game developer. Previously I was playing with XNA, but switched back to Mac cuz the iPhone is such an exciting new platform. I evaluated mac/iphone game dev tools, and chose Unity3D.
I love the monthly meet up ideas. For the monthly meet up , a couple ideas I have are the usual - Speakers/Tutorials plus it would be great to be in a laptop friendly space sometimes so people can follow along with tutorials and bring their projects to demo and get feedback or ask questions, exchange ideas etc.
Beer is good too. :)
Cheers,
Chuck
Unitarians,
Apologies for neglecting the UUG over the last week, but have been busier than hell with the day-to-day at dimeRocker HQ.
dR Apha is so damn close, we almost feel like releasing it.
That being said, I think it is time to hold a UUG drink + shoot.
By drink I mean beer, by shoot I mean the shit = all things Unity.
What do you say all us Vancity rockers hook up a week from now? Thursday, September 24th, 6:30 downstairs at Steamworks?
Not only will we be showing off our prototype, but buying a round or two for our local UUG chapter as well.
Let me know if this works.
Cheers,
J.Joly
My classmates and I have an important class that night from 6:30-9:30pm, but I'll try to show if I can. I'll spread the word to the classmates of mine who are interested in Unity as well.
The date was a suggestion for Vancouver Unity Devs.
Love to hear everyone's feedback on a couple dates that work.
Cheers,
J.Joly
Hey everyone,
I, for one, am definitely interested in some meetups regarding unity tutorials, best practices, workshops and guest speakers. Monthly meetups sound great.
I would say laptop friendly spots are a must. I can make any meetup in the next few weeks as long as it's after 5pm and it's not on the 25th (I'll be turning the big 24 on that day :().
Looking forward to seeing the overinteractive team again as well all the other local developers!
Salute,
Melvin
How about October 1st?
Cheers,
J.
I'm game if everbody else is.
Melvin
A system that might work well for meeting up, rather than trying to set dates, could be something like... the first Thursday of every month. And just post a reminder / agenda for it a little bit in advance each time. Keep it fairly casual until there's enough people coming out that we can try doing grander things.
Thoughts?
Say hello to unity3d fans.
I'm living in Richmond. I development my unity3d game in spare time every day. If I get my milestone goal, I hope join in meet and meet every body.
:)

I'm thinking we need to organize a Local 001 TGIF.
dimeRocker will buy the first round.
Let me know what works.
Kinda thinking second week of September.
Thoughts,
J.Joly
