Wow, what a crazy 2 weeks.
New school year for my son -- 6th grade! -- and a lot of craziness!
So what did I miss and what's next for us to do?
Oh and how is everyone? All 2 of you :)
You want to meet? What's your schedule look like. You say you have no school aged children. I assume that means you have at least one. My youngest is 1.5 years old right now so my schedule is only open when it needs to be :) Thankfully this is something that opens it up for me :)
As for having something to show, don't worry about that. It's just a super casual meeting of like minds :) I'll bring my laptop to show off what little I've been able to pull of if you like. I'm getting somewhere, but right now it seems to be going a little slow.
I've also been slowly compiling a list of places to advertise and doing ad-ish posts for the site. In the other thread It was mentioned there would soon me banners that could be posted? I'll add one my tags on the forums I'm on and start randomly (but legit) posting on said forums.
I'm sorry for misleading you, then. I don't have children of any age. I'm completely single and unattached (except for the parents). Consequently, that means that I live in a bachelor apartment, and of late things have been messy.
The best place for a meetup would be a coffee place, like Starbucks or similar place which has tables and doesn't mind people sitting around. That could be a selling point of future gatherings -- game talk AND caffeine. Hey, it worked for Delicious Monster... What have we got in between Glen Burnie and Severna Park, inclusive, that would work?
Admittedly, I'm not so well connected to the Flash or Unity community that I know where to advertise, which is why I asked. I think the people in charge of these boards are assembling the banners.
OR the Starbucks in Southdale shopping center @ Ritchie and Mountain Rd. That one is a bit bigger with more tables. Either / or works for me. There really aren't a whole lot of chill places to have meetings of any sort in Glen Burnie or Severna Park. You have to go to Columbia, Annapolis or downtown Baltimore for those. I've lived in all 3 locations and know of several places that are awesome.
OH! And College Perk in College Park. That place kicks ass!
There's also a very nice little small (small chain, not small establishment) coffee shop called Cafe Presto in Riva Plaza in Annapolis. It also has tables and chairs, and a few interesting pieces of coffeemaking hardware. If we have to cover more to the east, that's an option.
Although, truth be told, Southdale is practically in my back yard. That's an easy 5-minute trip for me.
The next question is when. My weekends are never great, but the next two are shining vistas of suckage. Maybe we can get a third person HINT HINT?
Southdale is just a short ride down Mountain Rd from me. I'm a few blocks from Edwin Raynor and Mountain Rd. So really it doesn't matter to me where.
As for when; Just name some times you're available and I'll pick one.
Maybe we should start a new thread with "Meet Up" as part of the title to see if we attract some more attention :)
Everyone still alive here?
Barely.
I'm sorry, but the way things are now the motivation to do things comes in fits and starts.
I really do need to schedule some sort of face time, if only to get out and see people.
Greetings!
I'm brand new to this community & just had the urge to introduce myself and say "wuzup".
For once a stable forum with active people that I can stare at - which is good to look at!
I'm here to learn and get involved in the community. How would I best get involved?
Bye For Now!
UB,
Like all brand new forums we are looking for motivated core contibutors to help building members and dialog . You can do this by reaching out to fellow Unity devs in your community and encourage them to correspond via this forum so other can keep track of projects, meetups, help wanted, etc.
I am also looking for feedback of what you would like to see this forum (functionality, improvements, etc) to better suit your needs and community building efforts.
Hope to see you all at Unite,.
Cheers,
J.Joly
UBTheron, we are here, if only hibernating.
I was kind of putting off a face-to-face meet because there would only have been two of us and that would have felt a little ...awkward. (There. I said it.)
You'd make it three, so the interest is rekindled. Where are you located, so we can find a central place to meet

I've no school-age children, so it's felt like any other two weeks, unfortunately.
Yeah, we could meet, but I'm still such an amateur at Unity that I'd have nothing to show. What it looks like we (the entire group, not just the local chapter) need now is people, and to get those, we need places to advertise and advertisements to post.
At least, that's my theory.
